CHAPTER 10
SCREENING (S)
âMorning, I realize I never gave you a time, but Iâll come pick you up in an hour, ok?â
My phone buzzes continuously, and I end up waking up to silence it. I am met by several texts and a call from Nathan. It is nine in the morning. I canât remember the last time I slept that late.
I peruse through the messages and realize that I am actually almost out of time. I quickly jump into the shower and prepare myself in so much haste, that Iâm sure Iâm wearing mismatched socks and I had to fix my shirt, as it was inside out.
After getting dressed, I reply with the thumb up emoji. I am good to go. A car beeps from downstairs and my gut tells me that it is him. I wonder if he was waiting for me all along in the car. I peep through the window and see Nathan waving at me, with a quick smile. I feel excited about the day, the moment I see him. All thoughts of backing out or reluctance to go out with him fade as I wave back at him. I take my essentials and head out.
I didnât think through how we were going to get to Chicago in time for the screening. I thought he booked tickets but then he never asked for any details. If we went by road, it would take hours and we would probably miss the whole thing. Somehow, I knew that he would have thought through all these factors.
He makes me feel so secure around him. I donât feel the need to be in charge or to take control. I feel relaxed around him, and it was a foreign feeling for me. We arrive at the airport through a gate on the other side of the main entrance and it is then that it dawns on me. He most definitely has a private jet. Why didnât I think of that?
âShall we?â Nathan asks me.
âJust out of curiosity, what donât you own?â
âA sports car and a house in Beverly Hills.â
âWow, basic rich person 101?â
âI donât think so. I donât own a lot, just what is necessary and has made my work and life convenient. A private jet proves to be essential when managing several projects.â
âSo, this is a business expense not a personal choice? At all? Like not in the least little bit?â
Nathan smiles slightly. âToday is an exception. I love the convenience and efficiency. Doesnât it feel good not having to wait in long lines and being searched at various stages before flying out?â
âIt does actually.â I admit. Although, I knew full well what a privilege this is, and made me more aware of how far Nathan has come. It also makes me question how far he is willing to go to get what he wants in life.
The private jet is sleek with a polished exterior that glimmered in the sunlight. The door opens with a graceful whoosh, and I am greeted by the scent of fresh flowers and the sound of soft music playing in the background.
